Note · How I work

Working style

How I work, from research to the final design.

I work with the Double Diamond method on every project. It stops me from jumping into screens too early. First I make sure I understand the problem, then I design the solution.

Along the way I check my work against Jakob Nielsen’s heuristics and WCAG, so the result is usable and accessible, not only good looking.

Research, user interviews, competitor audits

The four phases I go through on every project.

1. Discover

I start with research. Who are the users, what do they need, and what are competitors already doing well?

2. Define

I turn the research into personas, user journeys and a clear brief. Tools like empathy maps, “How might we” questions and Kano with MoSCoW help me decide what matters most and what can wait.

3. Develop

I sketch many ideas quickly with Crazy 8s, then pick the best and build wireframes. I test them with real people before any visual design. In Lefta, testing showed the sign-up was too long, so I cut it from 16 screens to 9.

4. Deliver

I design the final screens in Figma with a design system: components, colour variables and every state, like hover, error and disabled. I can also build my designs in code. I built this website myself.

The rules I design by

These are the principles I check my work against, with an example of each from my projects.

Nielsen’s 10 heuristics
NeuGenPower asks you to confirm before sharing energy (error prevention), and every screen has a clear way back (user control and freedom).
WCAG (POUR)
Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, Robust. I check colour contrast, make controls work with a keyboard, write in plain language, and added a dyslexia mode in NeuGenPower and Lefta.
Gestalt principles
Proximity, similarity and common region decide how I group content. I wrote my psychology essay on how Airbnb uses them.
Laws of UX
Psychology turned into design rules. I keep all 30 laws in mind, so what I design is easy to see, decide on, remember and use.
5Es of usability
Effective, efficient, engaging, error tolerant and easy to learn. I used them as Lefta’s usability goals.

I design with clarity, structure and purpose.

  • System Thinking Components suitable for each screen

  • Iteration Test, learn and improve

  • Research Fluency Turning research into decisions

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate across teams

  • Decisions with Data Designs are based on measurement and value

  • Impact and Result What changed because of my work?

  • Always updated My perspective with daily UI, UX and Art
